Several new impressive images taken from USAF KC-135R tankers have emerged on the internet.
They depict a number of current assets in theater, including US Marine Corps EA-6B Prowlers of VMAQ-3 ‘Moon Dogs’, 1st Fighter Wing F-22A Raptors, 48th FW F-15Es and Belgian Air Force F-16AMs.
The F-15E shots reveal 500lb laser JDAMs are currently being carried, plus a single AIM-9M Sidewinder and four live AIM-120 AMRAAMs (the F-15E is not yet capable with the AIM-9X). Interestingly, the Belgian F-16 carries a centerline ALQ-131 jamming pod as well as GBU-12s and AMRAAMs.

December 2017The Feature Article in the December issue of Combat Aircraft is dedicated to the US Marine Corps EA-6B Prowler. With sundown for this type set for 2019, we look at the Prowler’s ‘last crusade’.

The issue also ties in the new era of electronic attack with a feature on VAQ-129 ‘Vikings’ — the EA-18G training squadron for the US Navy. We also look at training new Naval Aviators with the first of a two-part feature on T-45C operations at NAS Meridian.

The issue also includes a look at the Northrop Grumman X-47B, which was set to enter the US Navy’s MQ-25 Stingray competition, but was dramatically withdrawn in October. Our USAF unit review is the 115th Fighter Wing, Wisconsin ANG.
