US ends combat ops in Libya

US Africa Command says that it concluded Operation ‘Odyssey Lightning’ on December 19. This followed the announcement by the Libyan government that it had completed offensive military operations in Sirte. The mission is said to he fulfilled its core objective of driving so-called Islamic State (IS) fighters out of Sirte. ‘Odyssey Lightning’ included 495 precision airstrikes against a range of IS targets including Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Devices, heavy guns, tanks, command and control and fighting positions.
