BAE Systems says it is progressing well with Project ‘Centurion’, which will see Royal Air Force Eurofighter Typhoons upgraded to Phase 3 Enhancement (P3E) standard by the end of 2018. The project is a UK Air Capability program that will mean the Typhoon meets sufficient multi-role standards to effectively replace the Tornado GR4 in service. ‘Centurion’ involves the addition of the MBDA Storm Shadow stand-off cruise missile, the Brimstone anti-armor missile and the Meteor BVRAAM.
Trials have this year continued at a pace with the four Eurofighter partner nations, with some notable milestones in terms of weapons carriage to enhance the Typhoon’s potent performance. From this November, the RAF will begin operational evaluation trials with the new P2E software, which adds Storm Shadow and Meteor.
